Positives are:
Very spacious
The internet via the onboard wifi works all the way to the Bayford tunnel
Clear automated announcements of next station
Power socket between each pair of seats
Air conditioning works well (although anything is better than the freezer / blast furnace of the 313s)
Text indicator boards in the carriages (but they weren't working)
Quieter ride due to sealed windows
The ride seemed to be more smooth except for that bit near Cuffley
You can walk through the entire length of the train to find a seat (but see first negative!)

Negatives:
Fewer seats (100 fewer per 6 carriage train)
The seats are rock hard
Poor leg room
Very little to hold on to when you're moving down the carriage and the train is moving

Not sure if it is a negative / positive, but the data allowance for the wifi is 50MB. That appears to be for each journey as I got 50MB in the morning and another 50MB in the evening.

I didn't travel past Drayton Park so not sure how they are handling the issue of drivers having to stop short to see the signals, which means you can't use the doors on the rear carriage. Rumour has it that they had a member of staff on the platform to see the driver off.

I made the mistake of tapping in at Alexandra Palace with my Oyster card on the way home today. Luckily for me (sort of) it turns out that Oyster is being trialled this week so I was able to tap out at Hertford North. And it worked.

This and new trains on the same day. It's almost too much to take in.

oh really? the daily mail eh? come on.

Those trains are running perfectly fine on the great northern. yes, they're slightly different, but come on.
A bit more than slightly different, but that’s not the point.
The point is that the signals can’t be seen properly unless the train stops short of the platform edge, which then leaves a blind spot. Pain in the back side, but that’s the way it is, for the moment at least. Rumours flying around that there will be permanent solutions to this in the next few years or so

Two new trains were due to be brought into service on Monday (11 March) but this was pulled on Friday.

We've had "Autumn 2018", "early 2019", "soon" when Mark Prisk met GN representatives a couple of weeks ago.

All 25 of the new units are now in the UK, sat in sidings ready to be used.

The old trains seem to be breaking down on a more frequent basis of late.

I'm sure there is some sort of Brexit analogy here.
Not looking promising

"A £240 million fleet of new trains is 'gathering dust' because a design flaw means drivers cannot fully see out of the front window."

I wonder if they will cut the price of a season ticket from HFN to the same level as HFE. Currently it is £150 cheaper from HFE...

https://tfl.gov.uk/fares/find-fares/tub ... tcmp=54716

It confirms mid-March.

Single fare from Hertford North to Moorgate is £8.50 (peak) and £5.80 (off peak). Return is double these fares.

Currently, single is £11.50 (peak) and £11.50 (off peak)
Returns are £18.00 (peak) and £12.30 (off peak)

So, if you travel in to London and only buy daily tickets then you will be better off. Hertford North doesn't yet appear on the travelcard prices page.
