University Band

University Band This year's carnival features the University of Luton Pipe Band. The band will take part in the procession through the town and play in the main arena.

The original pipe band was formed in 1966 by ex-patriot Scots. The name of the band has changed over the years and assumed its' current title in 1993 by mutual agreement with the university when it was founded.

The band mainly consist of members of the local community and surrounding areas, many of them having benefitted from excellent tuition during the 1970s and 80s from ex-servicemen. During this time the band performed at many prestigous events also competing successfully in many competitions throughout the country.

Presently the band consists of 25 playing members performing locally and further afield. It is constantly in search of new members both novice and of greater experience.

Recent opportunities have arisen where members have been required to play abroad in The Philippines, Germany and Egypt, to name but a few.
