Refuse Roadshow
The District Council are introducing Alternate Refuse Collections from November and this weekend will be holding a roadshow in Hertford to explain how it all works.
The Roadshow will visit Sele Farm on Friday and on Saturday will be outside Castle Hall in The Wash from 10am until 4pm.
ARC is due to start in November. Once it has been introduced, householders will be able to put garden waste, food waste and cardboard in their brown bin. Because much less waste will be going in the black bin, it will be emptied on alternate weeks with the brown bin.
Householders will have a green box, as now, for paper and glass. They will also get a blue box for cans and plastic. We will be giving everyone a kitchen caddy which they can fill with food waste and empty in their brown bin when they wish.
People living in flats will continue to receive the usual weekly collections.
Councillor Terence Milner, Executive member for environment and conservation, said: "ARC will allow residents to recycle more materials easily and will benefit the environment. The road shows will provide a useful opportunity for anyone to ask questions directly from council staff."

Nail Bar Has To Close
Enforcement action is to be taken against an unauthorised Hertford Nail Bar, but not against a womenwear shop sporting unauthorised signage.
D&J Nails in Railway Street were refused a retrospective planning application for change of use but have continued to trade. The shop is designated retail space and use as a nail bar or salon is regarded as a service. The District Council's Development Control Committee agreed with a planning officer's recommendation that action be taken against the nail bar.

At the same meeting, councillors declined to support a recommendation that enforcement action be taken against Hertford Women's Society after they were twice refused Listed Building Consent for a new shop sign. The new sign was put up over the original Wigginton's sign, which form part of the fabric of the listed building in St.Andrew Street. The Committee suggested that the shop might like to resubmit their application for further consideration.
